That’s what I meant. The Church almost took the case from Leon, and if it was up to the Church, the MC’s execution would have been a slow, painful and humiliating one.
Ilya didn’t become the Saintess immediately after Shiraya’s passing. If she did, she wouldn’t have to knock the dungeon guards out and try to break MC out of the dungeon the night before the MC’s execution. I imagine becoming the Saintess is a process that takes some time, and before a Saintess is elected, I imagine the power of the Church lies with a Father or a priest or something.
We don’t know that. The MC never got a trial. It was straight to the execution. They would have gotten something better not worse. And while the process of becoming a Saintess takes time, she was already on track to becoming one. She already held massive influence. This death was just the whims of a rash and stupid decision that one person made. And the way it was worded was such that the death could have been prevented had he chosen to give the MC over to the Church. I still think that would have been better
Um, you do remember that it was Saintess Shiraya that the MC killed, right? Even though it was a necessary act to save the whole Param. The Church must have been beyond furious about that. Not only that, the MC also accidentally killed almost a dozen spies, Ante’s subordinates. Those lives lost were also counted among the MC’s crime of manslaughter. The MC essentially committed a massacre, even though it wasn’t intentional.
We are not talking about the crime (which was witnessed by one person who hates the MC) and the guilt. They did kill her but as we saw given enough time the truth would have come out. I am saying that we don’t know how the Church would react but given how there is never any mention of ‘Oh ok at least I gave him a swift death’ we can also say that his death was preventable, not inevitable given the importance of the MC and his companions who hold significant influence. Do you really think if Ilya said something that no one would listen? Because they would.
And I don’t really want to discuss the execution scene anymore because most themes have already been mentioned and discussed and we always go in circles with them on this thread.
I guess everyone interprets the story differently, so let’s agree to disagree. I can only say for certain that the one truly at fault is Mireil for planning this twisted game for the MC. And perhaps another person at fault would be the spymaster Ante for having a certain bias against the MC.
Again, I’m just excited to get a look at what our non-Leon friends think about the whole thing! Especially the Arcadians, given their relationship with Mireil, and newfound friendship with Arcadian-Positive Mages.
Even if Ilya tried to save us some people would come up with the idea that mc and Ilya planned it together so she could take the position of saintess in my opinion
Lol. I know where you are coming from. XD
Although personally for me, I don’t think the Arcadians are any better than the Parami. After all, they are the ones who allowed Mireil to do all the horrible things she did which eventually led to the MC’s execution. So yeah, this is one of the reasons why I want my MC to escape Arcadia.
Not at all. My peace-loving MC would love to help Param and Arcadia achieve a peaceful coexistence if it is possible. But that still doesn’t mean he would want anything to do with either nations. He just wants a peaceful life.
Geez, reading back seem like it went nuclear in here lol brought back some sweet flashback of Mages vs chantry heated discussions
@Parivir Loved book 1. Homewever, I really felt disappointment with the romances. As in, loved how they were part of the story but the scenes were so far in between and so little.
Here hoping, you will expand on those things in book 2. Because outside of that, have no complain. Well, expect maybe the fact the spells aren’t animated!
What? I would love to see them for real, like BG spells style. I betcha they look awesome.
Hm, another thing is is there any chance to read Ilyra letter at the end? I was surprised you couldn’t. Hell, I’ll be interested to read the letter the MC leave behind to their chosen romance, and the letter Illyra write once she put 2 and 2 together.
And she was the healer of the group, I mean…come on Nurse!
So many time our mc end up on their back due to ‘hero complex=I wanna save everyone, let meh!’, and hoping some sweet moments. But nope, it always end up with ‘Stay still and drink a potion!’
But in general “just try to escape” isn’t a good enough plan for my MC.
A plan that doesn’t include introducing Thalia to the next life isn’t thorough enough an escape plan to my Sevan.
So his freedom is the same deal. Either Thalia will let him go (an obstacle to move around) or he’ll escape over her dead body (an obstacle to go through).
Right now my Sevan is thinking that murder is looking like the best solution but is willing to let Thalia
prove him wrong. As the player though, I have to say the forecast isn’t looking good for Thalia. High chances of cloudiness with a rain of death magic and poison.
My Sevan doesn’t like killing people, but when someone makes peaceful solutions impossible, that only leaves violent solutions.
Yeah, I don’t think Killing Thalia is an option as long as you get that geas. Something tell me that’s the big quest in book 2. Most often, when a game has a ‘Geas’ situation, it often become the ‘You gotta get rid of that 1st’.
I personally don’t think it’s impossible. From what I’ve seen, the way to get to Thalia will be hard and will require playing the long game against her. But it can be done.
Convert her pawns, and get them on your side. Free yourself from her geas, convince Panam to play nice or something, and corner her once and for all. She will either abdict and see reason…or die a futile death.
Although even if she die, while she could be considered a ‘Loss’, Arcadia will endure her being gone…so not that big of a loss lol
