I totally agree with you, and while I will continue to play this to see how it goes, I am also upset about these changes.
Look I just want the Author to have an amazing time making their story. I so hyped for this story!
I like Thalia in the rewrite. She’s supposed to be a manipulative character, it doesn’t make sense to drop all pretense and show off your collar right away at the first sign of resistance like in the first demo.
All of the problems with the new one really just seemed to be lack of choice in how we get to think about things, I don’t mind not being able to act on any internal opposition, I do mind not being able to think such things though
Waiter!!! more flavor text please!!!
Especially if it can be Panam related thoughts
playey too much cyberpunk? ![]()
I can’t spell
The kingdom guys, I swear
as you can see. me neither ![]()
You are completely correct. Of course it would be extremely dumb to show disdain towards Arcadia while in our initial situation. But we should be able to at least choose what we THINK.
That is one of the positives of the rewrite. But it still doesn’t outdo the negatives for me. Why can’t we have both? Keep the new storyline but give us more chances of expressing our thoughts internally at least?
But oh well, the chances of another rewrite are probably slim by now. So I better adapt. I wish I hadn’t played the original demo.
Yeah, the rewrite a bit lacks in intensity. I like Thalia getting some sense to be more subtle, but damn now there is too much unnecessary fluff. Not a fan of how now bringing back Eli is handled either, it just doesn’t have the same effect.
You call letting the mc go after a year even if they oppose Arcadia, with two phantasma in tow and have knowledge about Arcadia’s operations and military a smarter plan than having an effective mean to keep the mc on a thigh lease like in the previous version? Sorry but unless she was lying about letting us go, she is much dumber in the rewrite. And there should be options to test how far she will tolerate us if we act with deliberate insubordination.
To be completely honest I’m of the belief she’s lying and only saying she’ll let mc go as a manipulation tactic to have her appear more reasonable and all. But I do agree there should be a limit to what she’d tolerate regarding insubordination.
I fully belive Thalia intends to get her blood price for our resurrection.
This version of Thalia seems more subtle which I like as oppose to how she was in the previous version. And agreed she more than likely has every intention to get that blood price.
Someone wake me up when we get our reunion with Ilya please.
Quite honestly yes, Thalia’s current course of action and characterization is leagues better than the previous incarnation. Sure, she could threaten MC into subservience, that’d make sense until you think about it for more than 30 seconds. One of the consistent traits of MC is that they’re considered a magical prodigy who defeated their sister in combat, came up with countermeasures to disable the magical equivalent of a nuke, and single-handedly killed dozens of armed guards to reach one of the most important religious figures in the entire kingdom, and all of this was done using phantasms that they are incompatible with and aren’t supposed to be using to begin with; the mage would be a powerful trump card for anyone they sided with, and simply threatening them is giving them every reason to do the exact opposite. If the Mage was able to stop a magical explosion without any help and while compelled to not reveal any information about it, then there’s a pretty good chance that they’d find a way to get out from under Thalia’s thumb and fight back. Even if we assume the magic is impossible to undo and the Mage has literally no other option besides doing what Thalia says, then they’re still free to take every opportunity to undermine Arcadia while still technically doing what they’re told (like “accidentally” leaking information).
Arcadia has someone who is extremely capable and resourceful on their hands who has proven themself cunning, intelligent, and more than willing to fight and bleed for the people they trust, why would they ever want to antagonize that person? By treating Mage like a guest and showing them the positives of Arcadia, Thalia is able to humanize her faction to the Mage; in the best case, he outright turns on his former allies and willingly sides with Arcadia, and in the worst case, he leaves while having spent enough time in Arcadia to have humanized those people and perhaps being reluctant to kill them. Meanwhile if the Mage is threatened into subservience, the best case is that they only begrudgingly assist and work against Arcadia at every opportunity because they treated the Mage like a slave.
As with convincing anyone to do something for you, it’s just way smarter to convince Mage to want to help rather than make them help. She’s totally trying to collect on that blood price though.
And what is plan B if she fail to convince the mage. If the mage do not trust Arcadia sinserity, hate their guts regardless, is still loyal to Param and want vengence for their role in king Julian’s assassination, causing the war and unleashing our pychotic sister. What if we spit in her face and told her to fuck off or cast a fire ball in her face and leave? What is her plan then? She will still let us go like a moron? With all the knowledge we have on arcadia military strenght and weakness. They barely have an army and the festival show just how vulnerable they are in the new version since they no longer have their fliying island (a much cooler hq in my opinion. the new arcadia lost all its cool factor) The new Talia is such an idiot that gamble the fate of all her entire people on the chance we side with arcadia while the smart Talia has a contingency plan in case we turned against her so we would still serve her plan even if we hate her. In the new version, there is no incentive for a Param loyalist to help Arcadia other that the game force us to be a doormat. The new version seem to have been written with only the pro arcadian route in mind unlike the amazing previous version that actually cared about the player opinion on Arcadia and Param with the naration reflecting our though and allegiance. And the Arcadian glazing in the prologue felt too forced to endear them to me. In fact, i was constantly frustrated by how long and boring it was since my character could never voice his own opinions unlike the previous version where he could openly be hostile if he chose to.
Oh I’m pretty sure she has a backup plan it’s not like that magical collar is completely out of the question just in case after all. Also you are seeming to ignore that not every mc will be a Param loyalist and sometimes want revenge (My main MC definitely intends to burn Param down if given the chance.) Sure Tahlia is the main cause of it all with what you stated and I agree the Arcadian glazing is a bit forced but I generally prefer this version as opposed to the stereotypical cackling evil kingdom that existed in the previous demo version.
Someone like her almost certainly has a back up plan if the initial thing fails, the simple fact is, the mage is a too valuable of an asset to let go
